1996/9/18 Isshiki Makoto Sideward Taxi
(dream) The train line terminates at a desolate station beyond which is only a mountain road. I call a taxi from the station. The dispatcher on the other end says it will come under the name Mississippi. I walk a bit to where a taxi is stopped, and there is a dark-faced young man in the passenger seat. This should be my cab. I show the driver a cigarette that has the name 'Mississippi' printed on it, he nods and opens the door and says, "squeeze in, will you." To my surprise this is a ride share cab. Moreover, the seats do not face forward but sideways. They are covered in stiff artificial leather, which feels rubbery and buckles to the touch; cheap. The young man is Mr. K, from my dream about going to Canada in which had his both arms around a beautiful woman and was proud of it. In contrast, he is now reticent and dark and his head hangs low. According to his bits and spurts of conversation, the mountain tribe that lives in these glacial mountains specializes in making hanafuda (Japanese playing cards). He is a hanafuda buyer. Since he is making the trip the into mountains anyway, going empty handed is a waste, so he brings various goods to sell. (Close of dream.)
