994/4/16 Rieko An Extraordinarily Lovely Dream I Had

I pass through a muddy schoolyard and am walking on a grassy road.
I am not wearing a shoe on my left foot. I suppose I'll have to buy one somewhere.

I casually glance to the left where there is a cluster of red buildings clinging to the gently snaking landscape.

"What a stunning group of buildings!"

I go into the town. Alleyways that appear and disappear have the intimacy of a courtyard, and people, who also appear and disappear, are walking and resting and speak a strange foreign language.

I go into a restaurant at the end of the street and forcefully say in some language, "What time are you open until? OK, I be back with my friend later."

A young girl speaking broken Japanese appears, and starts to show me around the vicinity. It is somewhere between the Arab world and Spain in atmosphere.

I want a nice, cheap shoefor my bare left foot. I am thinking that I'd like her to show me a store.

The alley she shows me is colored like 16th century Flemish stucco; deep green, red and yellow. The air is sweet and stagnant, as if damp with rain. It is a nostalgic scene.

My field of view suddenly widens and there is a river. Deep shades of blue and green drift, flowing slowly and quietly. I am gazing at this from a balcony jutting out from the cluster of red buildings on the ridge.

My young guide has her back leaning against the balcony and is saying something.
I am looking the scene with her set into it.
I am pointing at a hotel on the opposing bank. "I'd like to come back later with my friend," I say.
I speak enthusiastically.
Strange, strange, like a snail might creep along, snaking town.

Red, red cluster of buildings.
