1996/6/21 Anzai Toshihiro Unexpected Stage Appearance
We are standing on top of a small hill near a park waiting for someone. We must, however, stay hidden. There is a cave in the hilltop. We lie awake inside. Looking out from the hole, the exit is a mere thirty-or-so-centimeter horizontal slit. I start feeling anxious about whether we'll be able to get out, or if anyone will find us in here.
I see flames in the opposing row of schoolhouses. Fire!I think, and everyone starts shouting alarm, but it is actually an ingeniously constructed stage set. It turns out to be made from a giant piece of fabric waving in the wind and a projector-like object. I say it's wonderful and give it a round of applause.
Stage rehearsal begins. I am the main character, a king, but do not rehearse at all. I suppose it is all right since I haven't many lines.
I am standing on stage. I clear my throat and in the kyogen-style (Noh farce) say, "Anyone there?" "Chamberlain, you there? Bring my script." "Octopus-whale, pig-gorilla, you there?" It seemed to go well. I can pull off the pretense holding a script. A servant brings my script. I'll read it later.
The script, however, is crammed with lines written in tiny type. I cannot understand it. I'm stuck. I can't read it! The word 'microsoft' is in there. Let me try again! I'm getting anxious. I hear the audience stirring.
